Shaker Band Trips

Our goal is to raise $10,000 every year

so that every student can afford to attend an international band trip


In 2023, the SHHS Band traveled to France. They visited Caen, Mont St. Michel, Normandy, Caen, Bayeux, Rouen, and Paris. They performed at several locations, including a moving ceremony at the Normandy American Cemetery and with our sister school in Rouen. The highlight of the trip was performing at the base of the Eiffel Tower!

In 2019, the SHHS Band traveled to Italy. They visited Rome, Pompeii, Sorrento, Isle of Capri, the Amalfi Coast, Umbria and Orvieto, playing concerts in city squares and marching through towns.

In 2016, the SHHS Band traveled to Spain! They visited Madrid, Toledo, Segovia, Valencia and Barcelona. They performed in the Plaza Zocodover in Toledo, at a soccer game in Madrid, in Plaza de la Virgen in Valencia and in front of the Magic Fountain in Barcelona.

In 2013, the SHHS Band traveled to Turkey. They performed two concerts in Istanbul as well as concerts in Bergama and Ephesus.  While in Istanbul, the Band toured the Hagia Sophia, Topkapi Palace, the Blue Mosque and the Grand Bazaar. They also visited the ancient Greek cities of Troy and Assos.

In 2010, the SHHS Band traveled across the Alps and played in Brixen,Italy, Venice, Italy, Innsbruck, Austria and Salzburg, Austria. The students visited Munich, Germany as well and spent time at the Dachau concentration camp.

In 2007, the SHHS Band traveled to China. They started in Beijing and played together with the American-style band from Chinese Public School 166 in the Tiananmen Square Business district. They played at the Great Wall. They went to Shanghai and played to a very large and enthusiastic crowd of about 8,000 people.

 In 2004, the SHHS Band traveled to Italy. They spent the first half of the trip in Sorrento, Capri and Almalfi Coast and then traveled to Rome.


In 2001, the SHHS Band traveled to Paris. They performed in the gardens of Versailles and finally were able to play under the Eiffel Tower! Other highlights included visiting EuroDisney, Paris sights and the beach at Normandy.

In 1998, the SHHS Band and Choirs traveled together and visited Goslar, Germany.  They visited the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp. They traveled to Paris by bus and boat and had time to really see Paris.

In 1995, the SHHS Band took a Tour of Europe, starting in Amsterdam where they played in a tulip park. They also performed during the halftime of a soccer game, performing without field lines! They traveled to Bruges, Belgium, Goslar, Germany, took a Rhine cruise and ended in Paris. In retrospect, this trip was considered to be overly ambitious.


 In 1993, the SHHS Band was invited to perform in England and traveled to the small village of Corby Glen and also Brighton Beach, Bath and London.

 In 1990, the SHHS Band was invited to Goslar, Germany. The Berlin Wall had just fallen and the Band traveled into East Germany and performed in Wernigerode and Quedlinburg. The students were very well-received.


In 1988, the SHHS Band, Orchestra and Choir attended a band festival in Toronto.

This was the first international trip for the Band.
